AUTUMN LEAF ART

A couple of weeks ago, Mrs Devine gave us all a few

pieces of paper, and a leaf. We then had to copy the leaf onto the

paper in any way that we could think of. Then came the fun

part. We cut out our leaves and made them into pictures.

ART INSPIRED BY JOHN BEVAN-FORD

This art was inspired by a awsome peice of work by John Bevan-Ford. He was a well known New Zealand Maori artist and we were inspired by one of his marvellous peices.

MATARIKI

On Thursday the 18th of June, the school held our annual Matariki celebration.

At quarter past five, we all gathered together, and Mrs Bevis and Hoani gave short speeches about the importance of Matariki. We were then set off to explore the school and have a try of all the Matariki related activities that had been set up. At the end we came back together for the Kapa Haka group  to do a performance, and then we let off our beautiful lanterns. It was a fun night, and most people learnt new things about the Maori new year.

FORENSICS

In Room 12, we have been doing C.S.I stuff with Mrs Devine. But guess what happened one Tuesday before school... We got robbed by the Phantom Chopping Block Thief! The most popular suspect was Mrs Dale because she had lipstick, a plaster, mud on her shoe, and coffee. There was lots of evidence against her so at first we thought she stole the chopping block. Now, after a closer examination, we think that Mr Lister stole it.

MATARIKI PRINT ART

On Wednesday the 17th of June, we were lucky enough to have Rei Hendry come into our class to teach us more about art. The type of art that we were doing was print-making (for tutorial click here). Because it is the time of year to celebrate Matariki (the Mauri new year), our prints were based on a native clematis that always blooms at Matariki. It took quite a while to figure out how to do it, and we learned a lot on the way.

THE TOWN POEMS

At the beginning of the term we got shown a poem by James K Baxter called "The Town", and we were then sent off to our desks to write our own versions of the poem. It took a while but in the end we ended up with an awesome display that we were all proud of. Here are some examples:
